Aveeno Intense Relief Hand Cream Review

Aveeno Intense Relief Hand Cream Review

When my No7. and Soap and Glory hand creams ran out during my skincare 10-pan I was desperately looking around for a hand cream that could not only nourish my hands in the same way but exceed the results that I gained with those products. My hands get very dry and have a tendency to chap and crack, especially on the back of my hands and between my fingers (the worst spot being between my index fingers and thumbs).

I kept hearing good things about Aveeno moisturisers. I was particularly keen to try their facial moisturiser that has SPF because I have pale, sensitive, dry skin and it sounded ideal. Unfortunately it seems that product is not available in the UK (yet?). One evening whilst shopping in Tesco down south I stumbled across Aveeno Intensive Relief Hand Cream. I adore products that smell of oats and oatmeal so it was love at first sight.

What does this wonder cream claim to do, I hear you cry. Well, it contains colloidal oatmeal and claims to moisturise for up to 24 hours, absorb rapidly creating a protective glove and leave skin soft and smooth. I am often taken in by product claims but I rarely believe them. The wording of “up to 24 hours” makes me wonder what would make it last less and what would make it last more. The packaging is appealing and has a “natural” feel to it.

I assume that the name Aveeno comes from the Spanish word for Oats, avena.

Pros:

  • The texture is unlike any hand cream I have used before, very slick and smooth. It almost feels like a gel.
  • The product actually does absorb quickly!
  • The smell is not overpowering like many other hand creams I have tried.
  • My hands feel instantly relieved from discomfort.
  • The feeling withstands a lot of hand-washing.
  • I massage it into my cuticles and it improves them.
  • It costs around £5 which may be a pro or a con for you but that’s a lot less than other hand creams I have tried.
  • I would actually consider carrying this in my handbag to use during the day (usually I can’t stand hand cream any other time than bed time).

Cons:

  • If you use too much it can take a while to massage in (this is standard with any hand cream I have tried and this one is a lot easier than most).
  • The smell is a little odd but I only notice it if I give my hands a good sniff after I have applied it (I should mention that the medication I take messes with my sense of smell).
  • It costs around £5 so if you’re on a budget you might want to consider that (although £5 on one good product is better than £50 on many poor ones).

That’s all I can think of right now but let me know if you have any questions. I paid for this product with my own money (well, technically my fiancé’s money because he paid for the shopping, haha). If you’ve had the same hand cream woes that I have then I suggest you give this a try. I have seen this product available in Tesco and Boots.

Valentines Day

This is just a little test post with a picture that I took yesterday. :) My fiancé and I had agreed not to get each other anything for Valentines Day but when I went upstairs to my computer room there was a vase containing 12 red roses and a rather comical card. We have a running joke about greetings designed in the style of a local supermarket's budget merchandise. When I was completing my finals at university my boyfriend deposited a budget motivational poster on my bedroom wall. It basically says 'please be motivated' and has some very recognisable branding. That poster is still on my wall. My Valentines card is very similar. It basically has the same branding and says 'sincerity guaranteed' and 'best before shortly after postmark'. He's such a sweetheart and, whilst these in-jokes might seem bizarre to a casual observer, it made me laugh. We didn't really do anything remarkable to celebrate yesterday but that was the beauty of it. We don't need to shower each other with hugs, chocolate, flowers and sweet nothings on Valentines Day because we endeavour to show each other that we love and respect one another every single day.
